I keep hearing over and over that Mörk Borg isn’t a good ruleset.
The people saying this generally fall under the type who were probably never going to like the game at all- they hated the layout, or the “style over everything” approach. I get it.
But - as someone who both loves the vibe AND plays it without it’s “canon” setting (such as it has), and opt for a less slapstick style (most don’t seem to realize Mörk Borg as written and played by the large majority tends to be 7 parts comedy to 3 parts grimdark - “grin-dark” perhaps, if you will)
I LIKE THE RULES.
They’re sleek. Slick. Hackable. Pretty awesome as is for a game that feels like a mix of old school DnD and some “everyone’s gonna f*cking die” Dark Souls sort of thing.
Enter Mörk Manual.
Put out by Booger Goblin Press (yes, that’s correct), MM sort of…B/X’s the Borg if you will. It takes the game rules and slaps them into a well-done framework for running a traditional fantasy game (also served up in true Mörk Borg fashion with rotting tongue planted firmly in sallow cheek).
Spells, classes, monsters, something about a Dark Lord - this takes a good ruleset and brings it back to familiar hack and slash territory for those more interested in a fresh take on your grandfather’s fantasy roleplaying.
Lots of fun.
