Exactly!! Whenever I play 5e it's SO BALANCED I might actively go out of my way to get my player killed doing reckless things (sometimes to the annoyance of the DM) and I've yet to have a character die in 5e.
Lethality definitely ups the excitement and the fun for me.

Never came around to 5e. Was always on 2e with childhood pals and then went to ODND and a few other new school old school games.
5e is definitely everything I don’t like about ttrpgs gone the way of video games
5e is the only one my friends want to play 95% of the time, which sucks but it's better than no games
