Thanks so much for sharing your journal and sketches. I totally agree about going offline to play. I keep notes in two columns, one for tracking rolls, oracle outcomes and other mechanics, and the other for the narrative description. I cannot draw for beans, but I do like to sketch out and annotate a little map.
I love the idea of two columns! That sounds so nice and neat…I sort of naturally started doing that during the big fight with Umesh on the bridge. Thank you for looking!
I'm working on a Starforged campaign right now, and you and I have really similar styles. I'm curious, how do you decide between "Ok, a few quick rolls, some logging of actions, some notes" and "Ok this means it's time for some narration, I'm gonna write a little more long-form."
I absolutely love your artwork -- I think I saw it a bit on Reddit as well? -- really hoping I can work my way up to sketching like this.
Also, is there any way that you can feel your sorta GM-Brain expanding at all when playing solo?
I’ve started slowing down a little bit, really trying to explore some things in my mind, and because I have started doing solo play in my nice sketchbooks I take the time to explain what is happening with as much brevity as possible so I’m not writing pages and pages.
Too much on page narrative cramps my hand!
I do post art on Reddit! (I have an “X” too but never post there the platform is too negative for me)
And yes! I mainly play solo for relaxation and to try things out for my table. Often cool things get added into my group game since they don’t see my notes or read any of this stuff haha
It's funny, where you talk about slowing down, cause at certain points in my soloing, I think "Man, this scene didn't seem as fleshed out as I like" and really what I needed to do was just close my eyes, kick back, and do some imagination work.
And yes, let's all leave X in 2023 where it belongs!
Hey, I am planning on doing the same thing with my Scarlet Heroes playthrough. I want to be a couple of sessions in before I start writing, but I love the way you are doing it. I have settled on the same 1-6 concept as well, the only difference being 3=no, but and 4=yes, but. About to go through and read the rest now!
Love it. Great art too. I have purchased a sketchbook for my solo now after reading this. Can’t draw but using ai for my own solo characters has been awesome and I create my own maps on incarnate as I progress. Great work. Really enjoying all your entries.
Oh I love this!!! Please, keep me posted. Don’t get discouraged just try to practice a little every day if you can. YouTube is your friend but so is drawing other people’s drawings that you like and drawing from real life. HUMAN OVER AI!!! You got this.
I played solo, just one time, but it was pretty rad! I love your sketches. Looks like an awesome game!
Thank you!

Gave you a sub hope to get a chance to read some of your articles this week!

This has inspired me to put more sketches and artwork into my own solo games. 🙂
Awesome. I’d love to see!

I’ve only been drawing for a few short years. If you rely on AI you’ll never learn for yourself!!
Very true. Ok challenge accepted.

Just got my copy of Shadowdark and solo rules so its a perfect time to start. Thanks for the push haha.
You’re so very welcome Troy.
I hope you share your adventures with us and I can’t wait to see some of your artwork.
This Aiwar is badass!
Thanks I really want to come back to this campaign.
