This article is very inspirational. I had a great session of Harpers Quest 2 recently: My character (a Harper, oddly enough) ended up with a racoon ally (he didn't talk, but we could communicate crudely). He possessed a crow-skull weapon which he threw at enemies to great effect. Together, we defeated the Great Forest Wurm using some magical stones and a scroll containing an "Icy Blast" spell (the Wurm was in a Druid infested corrupted forest). The unpredictability of what will happen is one of the draws of solo play (I never in a million years would have thought I would team up with a racoon on an adventure). It was great fun!
