I now have a better understanding of what you have been up to and that is very exciting! I’ve also always appreciated the gritty realism that a pirate game can be and curious to see your spin on it. Also a fan of Pirate Borg but it is a very different game but the use of the Borg rule system is quite slick. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the ship combat was.
Agree on the ship combat! They came into with a simple miniature wargame ruleset which was ideal. I have a basic fast resolution ruleset in this first pass but I’ll be doing something that mixes Blackbeard with pirates of the Spanish Main or something for a miniature based “advanced/optional” ruleset
I really envy you for your childhood experience with TTRPGs. I'm 35 and only recently took a interest in them, and the intimate, "wild west" world of gaming that you experienced is nothing like mine, where I've got a huge number of systems competing for my interest and attention but nobody to play with.
But this isn't about me, I really wanted to say that I can feel the excitement and passion in your post. I can't wait to check out No Quarter, already you make it sound like a blast.
I love how you describe the feeling as a main driver. That has always been what I get excited about, both with playing games and designing. Its that special feeling where something about a game or an idea pulls at very specific emotional strings, and an excitement and need to play or create bubbles up inside.
I have always had a hard time with pirate themed games and movies which go for the goofy and over the top swashbuckling feel, like Pirates of the Caribbean, so I am very excited for your take on the genre. Looks excellent!
Sounds amazing!
Oh man… I can smell the oakum and gunpowder already.

Thanks so much. These days I play with a group about once a week and solo once or twice a week, so I feel grateful
This game sounds fantastic.
I am stoked to see what you come up with.
Arrrr.

Thank you!! And yes that special feeling is worth chasing
I relate so much with everything you've written. Man, I forgot about the burned edges of our coffee-stained "maps"!
